At HangFire, shadowboxes seem to be a lot closer to the rule than the exception. A shadowbox is a frame that provides depth between the glass and the backing. Though generally used to allow enough depth to frame object, we often use shallow shadowbox walls to add a design element and create a little drama in the finished piece. We are constantly adding to our collection of unusual papers, leather, fabrics, etc, that let us add a design element not offered through conventional framing suppliers.
A HangFire showpiece. We designed and built the zebra wood structure from a single piece of lumber in our own wood shop. The shadowbox walls were made from the same piece of wood. The hinged glass door is framed with an elaborate black beaded moulding and the backdrop was made from an elegant charcoal toned rice paper.
