This is the kind of job we had in mind when we started HangFire. A challenging project where we can really put our skills and our woodshop to work and then do a little showing off when the job is complete.
For this piece, we used a moulding representative of the Olympic flame and perfectly matched to the detail work on the torch’s upper stem. We added a deep shadowbox behind the frame to accommodate the depth of the torch, which appears to be standing unsupported. The mats and shadowbox interiors were all created using three different shades of blue suede. We had plaques created to accompany the torch and cut the Salt Lake Olympic crystal logo out of matching suede mat boards, which was then floated above the top mat giving the piece an added dimension.
